IR Customer Service TV 7: Loungeband vs. Reggie, and a few installation tips

June 9th, 2008 · 15 Comments

This past month we have received a number of emails about back bands, and they seem to fall into two categories: 1) the difference between the Reggie and the Loungeband, and 2) how to install an IR back band into a composite boat. This episode of IR CSTV will hopefully shed some light on these questions.

That clears a lot of things up! Thanks for the timely information. I look forward to providing feedback on this new backband. Excellent customer service!

The video makes it easyer to fix the backband to my kayak.
Thank you for a good website.

Thanks for the advice. I have a Current Designs Solstice GT which I love with a backband which I hate. From reading customer praise of your product, I’m going to replace it with an IR Lounge Band. Your helpful video clinched it for me. Instructive videos of your other products would undoubtedly result in more sales of those products too. Thanks again.
    Sincerely,
    Norman Penick

    Hi Norman

thanks for the comment. Current Designs has begun using our backbands for their production, so most of their new boats will have this upgrade.

    All the best

Is your video still active regarding loungeband vs reggie? I have a CD Solstice and would like an upgraded backband. Which is more popular for that style boat? Thanks in advance. Tom

    Hey Tom,

Yes- that video is still accurate. In terms of popularity for that boat- It’s really impossible for me to say- 99.9% of our sales are to retailers, so we never really know where those bands go In general, though it’s really a matter of personal preference- do you want a smaller “backband” (reggie) or more of a larger “back rest” (loungeband).

    John,
I have an old Dagger G ride, which backband would you recommend for this oldie but goldie?
Hey I had been using that medium drysuit of yours up until the freeze; what a magnificent suit it’s a perfect accompaniment for cold weather paddling. Thanks for all your help with it.

    Hey Terry,

I would say get a Reggie. That backband was really designed for whitewater boats. The issue you are going to have with that boat, though is that I think that is a “forward adjust” backband- it has those levers on the thigh braces to adjust it. We do make a version of the Reggie for this, but you have to call us to get it. We can also go over some install tricks when you call in.

    Hi,
I am also looking to replace my backband, I have one of the first Pyranha S8 boats, with the “forward adjust” system. Can you please advise on a suitable band & if I must (like Terry) go to you guys can you deliver to Australia (+cost!).
    Thanks
    Alan

    Hey Alan,

I would suggest a Reggie. We can send you a forward adjust unit, no problem. If you send me your address, I can give you shipping quote.

    Thank,

    -J

I have wooden Pygmy Arctic Tern. The plastic band band is very uncomfortable and I am looking for alternatives. Can I use the Loungeband or Reggie in my type of kayak?

  • 14 John Weld // Aug 10, 2010 at 8:58 am

    Hi Linda,

To be honest, I am not familiar with the seat configuration on that boat, but basically if you can fit any backband in there, you can almost certainly fit one of ours. It might be worth ordering one so you can see exactly what might be involved- if it doesn’t work or it looks like it’s going to be a huge pain, you can return it.

    Hi John,

I wanted to let you know, I bought the Loungeband for my wood Pygmy Kayak and it fits perfectly. Thanks for the great customer service as well!
