It’s been an exciting time for me recently in a couple of different ways. Despite being surrounded by more snow than I’ve ever seen in my entire life I’ve managed to complete a few long terms goals and have been enjoying the beginning of a new chapter in my life.
The majority of my time over the past year has been devoted to my recently completed movie Locals Only. I’ve always wanted to make a kayaking movie and am ecstatic that I finally have. The amount of time and effort that it takes to put together a full length movie like this is exhausting, props to anyone who has ever done this, it’s not easy! At the moment Locals Only is slated for an on-time release and will be shipping in about a months time. Locals Only is available for pre-order now and as a special bonus if you order before April 15th you’ll be entered into a draw for a free Wave Sport kayak of choice. To order visit www.localsonlymovie.com. Special thanks to Immersion Research for their support with this project. If you haven’t heard of Locals Only check out the trailer.
Another neat thing that recently happened is that I’m on the cover of the latest Rapid Magazine sporting my plaid comp LX top from IR. The photo was taken by Ryan Creary on the Big Horn River in Alberta while shooting Mikkel St. Jean-Duncan’s segment for Locals Only. The funny thing about this photo is the fact that I wasn’t even going to run the drop because I was busy shooting video of Mikkel and it was going to slow everyone else down. After watching Mikkel and two others run the drop beautifully I decided that I didn’t mind making them wait for me, I think I made the right choice!
Last but not least after close to five years on the road living like a gypsy I’m now based out of Rossland, a small mountain town in Interior BC. Rossland is the perfect place for me to live a balanced life as it boasts infinite outdoor activity within a very short drive, including year round paddling. I’ve been enjoying winter in Canada taking advantage of the endless amounts of snow in the mountains spending lots of time downhill and backcountry skiing. It’s great to finally have a place to hang my hat after years of couch surfing and living out of my ’86 Chevy Celebrity.
With spring right around the corner I’m excited about getting out on the water more and starting my premiere tour with Locals Only.
