Well, well, look who’s here. It’s been a long time since an update from me. I believe the last update was a pic of me looking rather stunning in my “monkey suit”, aka shirt and tie, outside the IR shop! This one will be much more entertaining. It is a quick recap of my wedding (May 21st) and honeymoon to the Azores. If you feel compelled to send me a wedding gift, please don’t send anything that you can buy at Target or Bed Bath and Beyond!
All started off well and I didn’t screw anything up, and it looked liked a normal wedding. Then the graffiti’d bus from local watering hole “Bar 11” came to the church to pick up the out of town guests, followed by our “deuce and a half” army transport truck for a limo. Things really picked up when the lady who managed the union hall told me that, “We have to switch over to plastic cups. Your guests can’t seem to hold on to my nice ones.” I am not sure if she appreciated the big grin that came across my face or not! The evening ended at 4.00 AM when said graffiti bus brought myself and a dozen other revelers back to the hotel, not to mention the four randoms we picked up along the way! Check out our photographer’s blog if you want to see some more pics: http://www.studiobash.com/blog/2011/06/16/jessica-and-rogers-wedding/
Then we went on our honeymoon to the Azores, which was simply amazing. The Azores is an active volcanic archipelago pretty much directly in the Atlantic Ocean, belonging to Portugal. We visited three of the nine islands (Sao Miguel, Flores and Pico). If you are into wild and pristine places with little tourist infrastructure, this is your spot. I would describe the general topography and climate as a cross between Hawai’I, Yellowstone and Maine.
The highlight was this epic canyoning trip with Marco from West Canyon on the island of Flores. If you are in to adventure, and you wouldn’t be at the IR site if you weren’t, you have to visit Marco (www.westcanyon.net). He has canyoning routes for everyone. I’m going back for two particular missions: 1) one canyon ends with a 120 foot waterfall directly into the sea, after which you don your flippers and swim about 1 km to the nearest beach and hike out and 2) a 1250 foot waterfall descent that is an exhausting 4 hour rappelling mission. If you’d like to join me, let me know.
If you have some time, I made a video about the trip.
It is 15 minutes long, so set aside some time to enjoy our antics.
Also, in the meantime, Jess created a wedding app for our wedding guests. It was awesome, and it has since become a business that we’ve started. Check it out at www.ourweddingapp.com . However, you can’t make fun of the website because I designed it!
Thanks for humoring me!!
Roger

CONGRATULATIONS ROGER AND JESS!!!! Sounds like you had a great wedding and honeymoon. I missed seeing Roger at OR this year but understand he's onto new adventures. Anyways, congrats and next time you're in Colorado give me a ring and we'll go out for a celebratory drink!

CONGRATS!!! Talk about a blast from the past….I was going through some old pictures from the USA Cup and it made me wonder what ever happened to you. And then I stumbled onto this page. How exciting!! Glad to see that life has been treating you so well. And kudos to you and Jessica for picking such a perfect wedding date — my husband and I got married on the very same day. =)
Congrats again!!
