Where’s the other video you keep referring to that shows installation in a roto boat?

    Hi DJ,

its on the Service Page under backband installation help- or click here

I have a Dagger Echo, the seat is hinged and has a space between the top backrest and bottom cushion. I need lower back support, where the space is. Would this product give me support in this area? Thanks

  • 4 Roger // Oct 6, 2008 at 11:39 am

    Hi Dawn

I just checked up on that backrest, and I see where the problem for you is. Our backband is designed to sit much lower on your back than this seat. Also, you can adjust the level at which your backband sits by using the webbing ‘pro straps’ that extend out to the sides from the back of the backband. I would actually recommend the Loungeband for you as it is a big larger and will offer slightly more support for your applications.

If you have any questions, please let us know

    Hello
Is this the back band that comes installed standard in the Current Designs Cypress kayak?
    Many thanks
    Sergio

  • 6 John Weld // Dec 8, 2008 at 10:42 am

    Hi Sergio,

Yeah the Reggie is the backband they use.

    Thanks for the note,

    hi there,
I have a dagger cfs 200 and aI want to change the current back rest to a rachet system back rest. Would the reggie backband work ?

    Thanks

  • 8 John Weld // Mar 30, 2009 at 9:21 am

    Hey,
Thanks for the note. It sure would. In fact I think that boat originally came with a factory-installed Reggie- at least for the first year of production.

Would this backband work on a Valley Aquanaut without using a drill etc….?

  • 11 John Weld // Apr 22, 2009 at 9:50 am

    Hey Shawn,
There are a bunch of different ways of installing those- depending on if you have the plastic or composite version of that boat, and how high you want the back band to ride.
Probably the best thing to do is to give us a call when you get a sec, and we can discuss some options, and if you decide to order a backband, we can make sure you get all of the hardware you need. Our number here is 814-395-9191, and you can ask for Roger or John Weld.
    Thanks for the note,

Would the Reggie Backband work on Jackson 4Fun (Bearing in mind that some of existing holes are worn out by the original lines, so I would have to drill new ones in the rim)?

  • 13 John Weld // May 5, 2009 at 3:11 pm

    Hey Boris,

I can’t see why you would have any problem with that. I’m not sure how bad your existing holes are, but if push comes to shove, you could use the included adapter straps to attach the backband to the seat flange on your boat.

Let me know of you have any other questions,

    -John

  • 14 Neil // May 21, 2009 at 9:24 am

Just bought a Reggie for my EZ and the plastic blocks to fit into the seat void were not included. My retailer said they’re no longer available. This method of fitment is the best and now I’m having to make parts myself – not good! If it’s true that IR no longer offer these blocks with the Reggie back band the pictures on the website should be updated. If you can supply me with the missing parts & fasteners direct, I would be grateful. Regards – Neil

  • 15 John Weld // May 21, 2009 at 9:34 am

    Hey Neil,

We have always offered those blocks- Not sure what the retailer meant by that. If you give me your address, I’ll send you a pair with hardware.

    -John

  • 16 Neil // May 22, 2009 at 5:44 am

Thanks John, as I said in my email I’m going to try the back band fixed to the seat bolts and will take you up on your offer if I encounter any problems.

Faultless customer care by the way :-) Neil

  • 17 Bob // May 28, 2009 at 1:29 pm

    Hi,

The IR web site shows the Reggie with straps, strap extensions and bungees(?) with hooks. The Lounge model is shown without any extras. Does the Lounge come with all the same items?

    Thanks, Bob

  • 18 John Weld // May 28, 2009 at 1:42 pm

    Hey Bob,

Yeah, they come with all of the same stuff. we can also send you extra hardware on request if you need it.

  • 19 Justin P. // Jun 3, 2009 at 2:23 pm

    John/Roger,

Do you recommend the Reggie for a original version of the Eskimo Diablo?

Is it a real pain to install? How long do you think i it would take a novice to install?

    Thanks.

    -Justin

  • 20 John Weld // Jun 3, 2009 at 2:48 pm

The basic installation is pretty straight forward. If you want to install the “pro strap” it gets more complicated, but this is not a necessary step. I think an novice could do the basic installation in about 10 minutes, provided that the hardware in the boat is in good shape- ie not totally rusted out or corroded. You can give us a call if you like, and we can walk you through it.

would this specific strap fit well on a dagger rpm if I was looking for somthing more adjustabe and comfortable thanks in advance

  • 22 John Weld // Jun 15, 2009 at 10:31 am

    Hi,

The RPM has a classic, very common seat configuration- this installation should be about as easy as it gets.

  • 24 Doug // Jun 27, 2009 at 2:56 pm

I have an earlier W.S. Cape Horn 150 roto sea kayak with the old school one piece foam covered plastic seat. Possibly the worse seat ever created. I was thinking I could saw out the back rest portion, install a Reggie and put a better butt pad in the remaining seat pan. Any suggestions for a comfy toosh pad to compliment the Reggie? I’m tired of numb, wobbly legs and a rash on my lower back after a couple hours of paddling.

    Thanks,

    Doug

  • 25 John Weld // Jun 29, 2009 at 10:28 am

    Hey Doug,

We can certainly help in the backband dept, and if you have any installation questions, don’t hesitate to ask. In terms of the seat…We don’t sell them, but I have heard good things about the NRS seat pad- you can see them here:

    Hope this helps,

  • 26 Peter Mulhall // Jul 29, 2009 at 5:29 am

    Hi,
I have a Pyranha G3. Would it be straight forward fitting the Reggie to this boat?
    Thanks, Peter

  • 27 John Weld // Jul 29, 2009 at 11:11 am

    Hey Peter,
That is a little tricky. If I recall- that boat has a “forward adjust” backband in it, meaning that the ratchets are on the thigh braces. Is this the case in your boat? If so, we make a special backband just for that boat, but you would need to order it directly from us. If that boat does not have a “forward adjust” backband, let us know, and we’ll advise what to do.

    -John

  • 28 Peter Mulhall // Jul 30, 2009 at 8:49 am

    Hi John,
No, mine is fitted with the ‘Rapid’ system which does not have that outfitting. Mine has a ‘labrynth buckle’ behind the backrest. The straps for the backrest are attached to the screw which holds the seat to the side of the cockpit rim. Hope this helps,
    Peter

  • 29 John Weld // Jul 30, 2009 at 10:07 am

    Hey Peter,

I think in this case, you can attach our standard rear-adjust backband directly to the screws holding seat in place.

  • 30 Brett // Aug 27, 2009 at 11:45 am

I’d like to replace the foam backrest in a new Necky Looksha 17- to make it similar to the 17 Outfitter model. The boat currently has the gray high backrest that is connected only to the bottom portion of the seat. Any thoughts on how well the Reggie would fit and how much I would need to drill?

  • 31 John Weld // Aug 27, 2009 at 12:30 pm

    Hi Brett,

Thats a good question. Can you take some pictures in and around the cockpit rim and send them to me so I can get idea of what we have to work with?

  • 32 Johann (John) Fu // Oct 18, 2009 at 4:15 pm

I bought a used Romany elite and I want to replace the backband. I am an advanced paddlers with good playboat skills and a good roll and I paddle fast. Would the Reggie be a good choice? Are there any installations problems I should be aware of while installing it in a Romany elite?

  • 33 John Weld // Oct 19, 2009 at 3:37 pm

    Hey John,

I think the Reggie would be a perfect choice, based on what you are saying. The installation will most likely involve drilling new or bigger holes in your seat- if that sounds straight forward, than installation should not be a problem. If you decide to get the backband, and you have any installation questions, give us a call, we can give you a bunch of pointers. Thanks,
    -John

  • 34 Dan K // Dec 21, 2009 at 9:28 am

I have an older Prijon Seayak. The cockpit isn’t as large as the current model. The stock seatback is rigid and great for support, but the only roll I have is a layback roll and the stock back interferes with that roll. I would like to install a Reggie or a Loungeband. Any suggestions or comments on either backband for this boat?

    Thanks!

  • 35 John Weld // Dec 21, 2009 at 10:29 am

    Hey Dan,

I would suggest a Reggie for that boat- particularly if you are rolling. If you are feeling ambitious, I would also take a look at installing the backband using the pro strap that comes with the Reggie. This will allow the backband to pivot nicely when you lean back at the end of the roll. I’d be more that happy to go through some installation tips if you give me a call at 814-702-4236. Thanks,

Have all your backbands always come with stainless steel hardware? We are on a tidal river.
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • 37 John Weld // Feb 8, 2010 at 9:26 am

    Hey Chris,

From the pic, it looks like you could drill holes in the sides of the seat and attach the reggie there using the “adapter straps” that come with the reggie. And yes- the reggie has all stainless parts, although even stainless parts can get mucked up over time, so you might want to rinse them off from time to time. Feel free to contact us with any other installation questions if you decide to get the backband.

I have an older Perception Carolina…the serial number indicates it was made in ‘02: (WEM97J60E202). The cover on the foam rubber back rest has disintegrated and I would like to replace the cover, if possible. Do you have such an animal? If not, what would your suggestion be?

    Thank you.

  • 40 John Weld // Mar 24, 2010 at 10:45 am

    Hi Sharon,

Boy, that’s going back a long time. We made back bands for those boats sometime around 2002- I am assuming you have one of ours and that’s why you tracked us down. I can say for sure that we no longer have any stock of those parts, but it’s possible that I could put together a cover for you without too much difficulty. Is the cover still somewhat intact? can you send it to us? If so, I might be able to make a pattern from it and make a replacement. In terms of cost of this- it either is going to be very easy and I’ll do it for free, or it’s a mess and not worth the effort for either of us. I’ll need to see the cover first before I can say for sure. If the cover is in good enough shape, and you want to give this a try, send it to 800 Oden St Confluence, PA 15424, attn. John Weld. If the cover is totally ruined, the only other option would be to get a new backband.

I just picked up a Dagger Super Ego that doesn’t have any of its original outfitting. That includes the backband. Will the Reggie Backband work with this boat? Thanks.

  • 42 John Weld // Mar 25, 2010 at 10:49 am

    Hey Joe,

If I remember correctly, that boat has a seat that is connected to either side to the top of the boat- right? If so, it would be very easy to install a Reggie in there.

  • 43 BLADE // Apr 5, 2010 at 9:34 am

Have an old Preception Caroline boat and my back-rest is worn out. They no longer make the boat and have changed the entire seating system so no parts are available. It appears that your REGGIE will work with a little modification (mounting the seat’s anker hardware) to the boat’s plastic seat. What do you think & is all the mounting hardware that I will need included?

  • 44 John Weld // Apr 5, 2010 at 10:27 am

    Hi,
Can you take a picture of the seat and cockpit area for me really quick and send it to me? They have made so many versions of that boat over the years it’s hard to keep them all straight. I don’t anticipate any problems, but a picture will eliminate any doubt.

    Ok will do. Thanks!

  • 48 Mitch // May 21, 2010 at 8:53 pm

Any advice on how short to cut the bungee cords? I am trying the bungee cord method initially before committing to cutting into my composite kayak. Should the bungees be cut short so the bungees need to be stretched to connect to the seat?

  • 49 Kelly // May 22, 2010 at 3:47 pm

I am building a couple of skin on frame kayaks. Have you heard/seen any successful installations of the reggie backband in a SOF kayak?

  • 50 John Weld // May 24, 2010 at 8:28 am

    Hey Mitch,

Yeah- the bungees should be pulled tight. The idea is that the bungees will 1) help keep the backband out of your way when entering the boat- and not slipping under your butt, and 2) help keep it in place during use.

Let uns know if we can help in any other way,

    -John

  • 51 John Weld // May 24, 2010 at 9:27 am

    Hey Kelly,

Years ago I had a customer do it, and he even posted pics on our website. It was before the current version of our site, and I don’t have them anymore, and top be honest I can’t remember how he did it. Keep in mind that almost any retrofit backband installation requires a little monkeying around, and our backbands come with a variety of installation methods. I would say that if you are even a little handy (and if you’re building a kayak, you must be) you should be able to figure something out that works. As always, we’re here if need extra hardware or help,

  • 52 Jim Brown // Jun 5, 2010 at 10:43 am

I have a Boreal Ellesmere composit sea kayak. This is a greenland style boat with a low back deck, in in my earlier version, a very small cockpit opening. The original back band had a metal adjustment clip that has corroded to the point of destruction. I am assuming that the smaller band (probably similar to the original in size) is the correct size, and was wondering if you think this would work as a replacement. Also any recommendations that you have would be appreciated.

Thanks for your input, and if it looks like it will work I will submit my order,

    Jim Brown

  • 53 John Weld // Jun 7, 2010 at 9:40 am

    Hey Jim,

I tried to get a good look at the Ellesmere seat on the Boreal website without much luck. But since it’s a composite boat, I am going to assume that it has a composite seat in there as well. In this case, you could take the “chucks” off the ends of the ratchet straps, and replace with the included adapter straps. You could then bolt the adapter straps right to the sides of the seat. If you haven’t seen it already, I have a video covering this procedure here. As you suspected, I would go with the “Reggie”- the smaller of our two back bands.

If I have the seat configuration all wrong, or if you have any other questions, please feel free to get back to me,

    -John

  • 54 Quent // Jun 8, 2010 at 3:50 pm

I have a 2003 Perception Carolina 14.5 with what I think is a forward adjust style backband and rachet mounted onto an L-bracket (with rivets??). The web strap (33″) is ripped, the ratchet strap is ripped, and the ratchet is rusted. All needs replacing. (Otherwise in great shape! lol) Do you sell this? What about the L-bracket? Or should I rip-and-replace with a LoungeBand?

    Thanks in advance! — Quent

  • 55 John Weld // Jun 9, 2010 at 8:08 am

    Hey Quent,

Many years ago we made those backbands for perception, but we have long since stopped production of that item and we no longer have any parts from that project- save the ratchets and the ratchet strap. For reference, I think that L Bracket was made by percepetion. Anyway- I think you are going to need to replace it, and the Loungeband is as good a bet as any. Our backbands can be fit into almost any boat with a little tinkering, but I can give you some specific advise if you need it. I don’t recall what the insides of those boats look like (and perception has changed the interior of that model many times over the years) so if you want that advise, you’ll have to send me a picture of the cockpit and the seat area.

I hope this helps a bit, and let me know if you have any other questions,

    -John
