Custom-made Dry Decks

What is a dry deck?

A dry deck is spray skirt and paddle jacket joined together to make a single, very comfortable and very low-bulk paddling garment. For those paddlers out there who’s kayaking habit has transitioned from pastime to passion, the dry deck is the ultimate piece of custom paddling gear.

How do I order a dry deck?

Because each dry deck is made with the exact size, color and style jacket and the exact size and style skirt you want, each dry deck must be custom-made to order. This is not an item that we stock. First, you can peruse our website to find the garments you want to match up (or we can help you pick), and then call us to order.

How much do they cost, and how long will the take to make?

They cost of the dry deck is roughly equivalent to the cost of the skirt and jacket combined. Once the order is placed, we usually have your dry deck completed and shipped within a week, but allow 2-3 weeks to be safe.

To order, call us 9-5 EST at 814-395-9191

WOW! After three days of intense kayaking on the Ottawa River I could not even get an entire sponge full of water out of my boat. I love my new competition shorty, SBD skirt Drydeck. Thanks for making something that cool.

Damn shazzam! I ordered my shorty Comp/Tuffskin skirt Custom Drydeck at the beginning of the summer. Roger worked his magic and had it out the door in no time. I’ve been puttin’ it to the test all summer on my new home-The Potomac River….and of course its in my bag when I head back to the Ocoee once a month. Lets jus’ say it needs to be named The SuperDrydeck by Immersion Research, because it is just that-SuperDry! Thanks to the IR Family again for providing effective, innovative, bomber gear for all of us out on that amazing force of nature….the mighty river. -Greg Garrard

Can you guys make a drydeck that isnt tight at the bottom? You know xtra large hole in skirt that seams directly into the top w/o the tight neoprene part at the bottom. Easier on/off and increased mobility.

Our dry decks are already pretty loose around the waist- they have to be so you can pull them over your head. But we can also make a lot of custom adjustments on those if you like- if you are ready to order, give us a call and we can discuss details.

    Hey Jonny,

There is a chance you can get one used and/or cheap, but not from us. When you are ready to spend the $$$, let me know your size, and we can make one that fits you perfectly.

The dry decks look amazing Im just wondering what happens to the innertube? is it left in or removed? could you possibly post some picture of the inner layout, thanks
I have been using a IR comp shortie in the uk for the past 2 years – great piece of gear :D the rule is shortie unless below 10 deg.
    thanks again

    Hey Sam,

We cut the inner tunnel out. One of the benefits of the dry deck is that it’s loose around your waist, and without the inner tunnel and neoprene outer waistband there is a lot less bulk and weight. We are also now making shorty all-latex dry decks- custom built to your specification. They are generally in the $340 range, depending on the skirt. Let me know if you are interested in one of these at some point, and I can give you details,

cool thanks, Im looking at getting another shortie soonfor the british summer
if asked would it be possible to keep the inner tunnel? just for linking with drytrowsers and for the warmth, avoiding of a cold middle. esspecially for long days on the water and scouting.

    thanks

    Hey Sam,
Sorry for the late reply- I was out of the country for the past week. To answer your question- yes we can keep the inner tunnel in, if you like. Make sure to specify that you want that when you order, though.

    Thanks,

Thanks Jesse! I got my dry deck today and it looks pretty sick! I’m totally excited to get in the water this weekend. Amazing service – ordered Monday and it’s in my hands today – Thursday. SICK!

These tops look pretty awsome. i was wandering is it hard to order from the uk? will there be extra costs and a long waiting time?
    thanks edd

    Hey Edd,

Dry decks typically take about 5 days to get made, and after that, shipping takes about 10 days. So around 3 weeks total. In regards to ordering, tell us what you would like and we’ll get started on it right away.

Been in the water a few times now with my new SBD / Comp LX DryDeck. All I have to say is buy one. After playboating for 2 to 3 hours, two separate time, not even a trickle of water in my boat and that is NO exaggeration. Best piece of boating gear hands down.

Yeeeah Vito! Glad you are happy with the combo! I knew you would be happy with the SBD! Cheers

Now, a question that you haven’t come across yet. I am (eventually) going to build myself a skin-on-frame greenland kayak, they use a skirt type thing that is called a tuilik, I am wondering if a custom skirt+drytop could be created. There is just a small market so I expect that you wouldn’t make them en mass. Just a thought and question.

    keep up the good work!

    Hey Jason,

As long as you use an off-the-shelf IR jacket for the top, and we could make the skirt out of neoprene and bungee, then yes, we can do it. As you get closer to this purchase, give us a call and we can discuss some details.
