  • 2 rloughney // Jul 1, 2008 at 9:49 am

It is indeed a large, and I have added it to the list

  • 3 Aaron // Jul 8, 2008 at 12:24 pm

Que paso? Love the SBD skirt guys. I have a Drago Rossi Thruster and this skirt fits the best of any skirt so far. Super dry and easy to put on.
    Muchas Gracias

    Hey Aaron,

Thanks for the compliment, and its good to know that it fits the Thruster well- we will keep that in mind for future Drago Rossi customers.

What size sbd sprayskirt for an old model Eskimo Salto? Thanks

  • 6 John Weld // Sep 25, 2008 at 10:15 am

    Salto is a large cockpit.

    Hi IR’ers!

Does this skirt run small as opposed to other IR skirts? I measured a Large Cockpit SBD at about 29″ end to end at the bungee which seems like a medium to me. Does it run small or is it mismarked? I put it on a 31″ by 19″ cockpit and it seemed to fit perfectly. What gives? Thanks.

  • 8 John // Nov 3, 2008 at 10:19 am

    Hi,

Thanks for the note. In regards to the fit and measurements of the SBD: That skirt should fit cockpits up to about 34 long by 19 inches wide without too much trouble. One of the guys here at IR uses that skirt on an all star, which is about 35 X 20, but he needs to get it wet to get it on.

That skirt is a little bit different to put on than most- I made a short video on the techniques here:

    http://www.immersionresearch.com/2008/04/03/ir-customer-service-tv-4-the-spd-skirt/

In general, the skirt is much easier to put on when wet.

We only make that skirt in large and Xlarge cockpit, so if it’s mis-labeled, it would be too big if anything.

I hope this helps- If you have any questions or problems, please don’t hesitate to ask.

    Hi John,

Yes, I had watched the video before I wrote – it was very helpful and I think it helped me get the skirt on with my first attempt. It fits the cockpit cleanly and the seal is really great. I might like it better than my Tuffskin rand. Thanks for your help and for continually making great products.

    Hi there,
I bought one of these skirts from your booth at Gauleyfest (guy with blue Wave Sport Fuse)
and it’s been great, definately drier than the Snap Dragon Armortex I had on the Fuse before it. Do you think I should keep it out of the chlorinated water during pool sessions this winter though? Just wondering about that tacky silicone…

  • 11 John Weld // Jan 9, 2009 at 9:27 am

    Hey Scott,
Glad to hear you like the skirt. I don’t think the chlorine will hurt the silcone that much, but it will tend to dry out the neoprene and generally make the skirt wear faster. If you just rinse the skirt off in relatively un-chlorinated water after use, it should be just fine.

    Hey Brent,

Those are both large cockpits. Thanks,

    Hi

I have a couple of questions. I paddle a Pyranha S8 235 and have been using a Pyranha deck for the past 6 years (originally on an Inazone). The deck is similar to the SBD and has served extremely well, after endless tubes of neoprene glue, it’s now knocking on deaths door. I use the S8 for mainly surfing. I have seen a few bits and pieces of your equipment here in Oz, and have to say the build quality if phenomenal. So, my questions are: Can I order direct from you in the USA? What size deck would fit my S8? Are the ratchets you produce compatible with the Pyranha set up?

    Thanks.

    Andrew

  • 15 rloughney // Jan 28, 2009 at 10:16 am

    Hi Andrew
thanks for the comment. The SBD is indeed a very similar deck to the Pyranha skirts, with the one major difference that we have added some reinforcement along the deck to increase the longevity of the skirt. For the S8, you would want a large deck, and you can order from the website. The ratchets are compatible with the Pyrnaha set up.

If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Do you think this could solve the problem with my leaky 07 kingpin?

  • 17 John Weld // Mar 9, 2009 at 10:26 am

    Hey Tyson,
Well, I can’t guarantee that it will work, but I will say that the Dagger cockpit rims from that era were some of the worst ever designed, and that the SBD seems to really work well on difficult rims because it tends to “Fill in” the gaps really well. I can send you a loaner (a used one we have laying around here) to try if you promise to send it back…let me know.

Thanks. My kingpin doesnt leak at all anymore!

  • 19 Mark // Apr 30, 2009 at 12:56 pm

I was about to order a SBD skirt and noticed that the double tunnel option vanished, perhaps I’m getting old and can’t figure out how to find it on your fancy website.

  • 20 John Weld // Apr 30, 2009 at 1:16 pm

    Hey Mark,
Due to unpopular demand, we stopped making them- although I still believe that they are the best way to keep water out of you boat. Oh well. I can offer to put a double tunnel on an SBD for you though. The cost would be the same as the original double tunnel skirt- $140. If you are interested in that, let me know, and we’ll take care of it.

  • 21 Ian // May 3, 2009 at 12:01 pm

What’s the advantage of a double tunnel?

  • 22 John Weld // May 4, 2009 at 11:40 am

    Hey Ian,

It keeps more water out of the boat. Without getting into a 10 paragraph dissertation on the physics of the matter, if you draw a “cutaway” view of the layers made by a single tunnel skirt and double tunnel jacket vs. a double tunnel skirt and a single tunnel jacket, you’ll see that water rushing up the deck of the skirt (like while throwing a loop for instance) flows into the boat with a double tunnel jacket, and back out onto the deck of the boat with a double tunnel skirt.

    John,
I have a Large double tunnel SBD I bought for my Pyranha Ammo L and it is a true bear to get on. Should I have bought an XL instead. I have an older model Special K that I love, but really want to use this new SBD.
    Thanks–Mike W.

  • 24 John Weld // Jun 22, 2009 at 11:50 am

    Hey Mike,

Theoretically, that skirt should fit that rim, and I would say that the XL would be way too loose. However, small differences in cockpit designs- particularly the width of the rim and where the widest point occurs- can drastically affect fit. I’m going to ask the usual questions: 1) have you tried to put the skirt on when the silicon is wet (that helps a lot) and 2) did you see our video here on the trick to putting that skirt on?

  • 25 Jewell // Jul 11, 2009 at 7:31 pm

    John,

I’m looking to replace my boyfriend’s leaking spray skirt. He owns a Jackson Superstar as well as a Mega-Rocker, and would be using it for both. He boats class IV-V, and has had a skirt implode on him before. Which skirt do you recommend I get for him?

    Thanks,

    Jewell

  • 26 John Weld // Jul 13, 2009 at 10:29 am

    Hey Jewell,

Thats an easy one. I would get the XXL cockpit toughskin rand skirt. This size cockpit is actually a new product for us, and they are pretty much custom made for the big jackson rims. They are also in limited supply for the next month or so. We have a few coming in next week- if you are interested in securing one of these, give us call, and we can set one aside for you. You can ask for John or Kara. 814-395-9191.

    Thanks,
    -John

What size skirt would you recommend for a Pyranha H3? I had a large cockpit NRS kilt that split on me. It was an old one, but it was a bear to get on anyways. Would a XL shockwave or SBD be the way to go? Thanks

    Cockpit dimensions
    36 ¾” X 19 ½”

  • 28 John Weld // Aug 17, 2009 at 3:26 pm

the xl shockwave would be easy to get on that boat. The SBD is a dry skirt, and the XL would fit it, but it’s not the easiest skirt to put on. Another option is the Lucky Charm, which is our new randed skirt. They will be here in September, and the XL version of that skirt is pretty much designed for Pyranha rims.

Nevermind–I completely missed the skirt size guide on the site.

  • 30 tom // Aug 18, 2009 at 9:45 am

I got a wavesport xxx. would either of the SBD skirts fit my boat? 32.5 x 18″.

  • 31 John Weld // Aug 18, 2009 at 9:56 am

I think the large would be a good fit..

  • 32 J // Sep 18, 2009 at 6:55 pm

I just got an older jackson super fun and I found a double tunnel SBD skirt online, I also found a fit chart from someone that said the XL cockpit size would fit. however, the XL skirt is listed at a max of 37 by 19.5 and the boat is 37.25 by 21.5. Should I got for it?

  • 33 John Weld // Sep 21, 2009 at 10:03 am

    hey,

OK-We have a super fun in our basement with no seat in it, and I was able to get the XL SBD on it dry with a good deal of effort. With a seat in the boat and with the skirt wet, I think it would be manageable. It would be super dry, thats for sure.

    Hi John,
I have a large SBD which I used on my Md. Recoil for a year until this summer when I started using it on my Project 52 (33.5×19). While it worked great on my Recoil (34×19.25)the skirt now allows a fair amount of water on the side near the back–about where the seat is; generally only when I roll in a hole. Do bungee skirts have memory which would casuing this? Is the skirt old? Is this not a good skirt for the Project do to the straight sided cockpit in the rear?

  • 35 John Weld // Dec 7, 2009 at 3:44 pm

    Hey David,

To be honest, it’s hard to say whats happening there. Here’s some thoughts, though. 1) Bungee skirts don’t really stretch out- the latex in the bungee should retain it’s elasticity for a long, long time. 2) sometimes seat placement can cause trouble- like a seat can be much farther forward in your new boat, and you are pulling the skirt off the back rim. 3) About 25% of whitewater boats have good rim designs, about 25% have OK rims, and the rest are pretty bad. On the bad rims, sometimes a particular skirt will work well just by chance- like the rand happens to fit into the rim recess really perfectly, or the paddler happens to be strong enough to force a really, really tight skirt on a boat- but many times they just leak. I would suggest borrowing a rand skirt if you can, and see if that fixes it, preferably one that is pretty tight. If it fixes it, or even if it helps, you will have a much better idea of what’s causing it- with the hope that a different skirt will be the answer. If it doesn’t help at all, you may be looking at chronically leaky rim.

I have a Dagger Approach 10. Would the XXL work for me?

  • 39 jbecker // Jan 11, 2010 at 12:08 pm

    Hi Jason,
A XXL Excursion skirt would be a good pick for the Approach. This would be a great option as you can vent the skirt tunnel if necessary on warmer days, yet you can synch the tunnel down for a tighter , and drier fit for use on class 2 whitewater, or for rougher waters as the boat is designed for.
