how about the spray skirt size for a Pyranha Ammo,
I paddle the large size Ammo, which I believe has a bigger cockpit size than the S or Med Ammo.
…and also, just got to tell you that your gear is outstanding!
We’re all stumped here… we have never heard of that model boat from Perception.. is it a touring boat? Is it made out of plastic, or is it composite? What are the cockpit measurements (length & width)?
That’s a large cockpit, and you would want a large waist. Beyond that, we make 3 types of skirts that would be appropriate for that boat- the SBD, the toughskin rand and the shockwave bungee. The SBD is a super-dry skirt thats really good for play paddling, the rand skirt is best suited for creek paddling and bigger/harder whitewater, and the shockwave is a good class II-IV skirt thats easy to get on the boat. If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to write, or give us a call.
What size would you need for a Bliss-Stick RAD 175? It is listed as keyhole, with the 180 and 185 being flipdeck and the 195 being creeker. You only have 1 size on the skirt search for the RADs though. Also, the Free Styler, Life Styler, Mystic, Mini Mystic, and SCUD aren’t even listed.
We try to keep up with all of the boat designs out there, but… even though it is our job to make skirts that fit well, keeping up with the literally absurd amount of rim designs out there is really almost impossible. To make it even more complicated, the Bliss Stick Rad is a strange rim. I would recommend XL for any of our randed skirts, and for the shockwave, but our SBD skirt really doesn’t work on that rim very well.
We are due for an updating of that list, and we will be sure to include the Bliss Stick line-up.
Thanks, and let me know if you have any questions,
Is a J Lo a recommended spray skirt for a NDK Romany Surf that will be engaging in upside down activities?
It has a bigger cockpit than a standard Romany. Also – I paddle sometimes in one thin layer, sometimes in a drysuit with rather a lot of fleece under it. Any ideas?
THANKS!
To answer the first question- yes the J-Lo is a full neoprene skirt that is glued and taped so it’s waterproof and made for rolling and heavy surf. The Shockwave and Openwater are also options- they are very similar to the j-lo in materials and construction. The J-lo, though, has the benefit of the shorter, conical tunnel.
In terms of the second question(s)- I have spent some time online trying to find the exact dimensions of the Surf version of that boat with no luck. To recommend an exact skirt size for that boat, I would need to get the width and length measurement of the cockpit, including the rim- although I suspect that it’s a “Large” cockpit.
In regards to the layering/ drysuit question- give me an idea of the problem or issue you would like to solve, and I’ll do my best to steer you in the right direction.
Thanks for the note, and let me know what you think,
-John
I have a Wilderness Pamlico 100, a great boat for quiet water. I’ve spent many happy hours exploring the Chicago River, but I want to take it out on Lake Michigan more this summer.
Pam 100 has a wide cockpit…what skirt do you recommend? Thanks!
Well, that boat has a really large rim- it falls squarely into what we call the “rec” size. The problem with the rec size is that for skirt manufacturers, it represents a huge range of rims, basically anything between 40″ and 60″. Furthermore, most people who buy rec boats usually aren’t in the market for a skirt, or if they are, they don’t want to spend a lot of money. So the skirts made by these boats tend to be loose-fitting and not really made for any kind of challenging conditions. More of a “keep the sun and splashes off my leg” kind of deal. And we have an offering in that department- the Tortuga Rec skirt. For the money, its actually a pretty good deal- it has a foam insert and implosion bar to keep the deck peaked to shed water properly.
If you want something more high performance, you would need to go to an all-neoprene skirt, which would have to be custom-made for that boat (I don’t know that any manufacturer stocks that kind of skirt). we can do this, but it would be in the $150 range. If this is something that interests you, let me know, and I can tell you what we would need to get that project started.
Thanks,
-John
hi john i have a jackson fun and i tried the “large” cockpit and could not get it around even with help from a friend in the sales shop. they said use an extra large. which i was able to get to work. does it get more stretchy when wet or when used more? what do you recommend
The Fun (and Allstar) changed the definition of “large” by making the cockpit the same length as most large rims, but 3″ wider. The width is the deal-breaker here- most skirts aren’t cut to stretch very well side to side, and we make them so they fit without sagging on the common 18-19″ rims. Anyway. We have redesigned our large skirts to fit, and we are just now getting them in stock. They other option is to use an XL skirt- like the shop recommended. The skirts will get a bit easier to put on when wet, but overall shouldn’t stretch out over time.
Let me know if you have any other questions, or if I can help,
What size spray skirt would best fit a Jackson 4 fun?
I also have a pyranha burn M and was probably going to get the new 2010 Allstar or Superstar from Jackson. Would like to have a skirt that would fit all three.
An XL cockpit skirt should fit all of those, although please note that depending on the style skirt you choose, you will get a different kind of fit. If you are looking at an IR skirt, give us a call before you order, and we will be able to help you find exactly the right skirt.
Medium cockpit shockwaves would be the skirt for those boats. Also note that we offer discounts for eligible programs- give us a call and we can discuss, if you like. our number is 814-395-9191.
Thanks,
This page qualifies the Wave Sport EZ as a large. The cockpit on my EZ measures 18″ x 33″. You’re measurement guide calls that a medium. I’m looking to buy the shockwave skirt. Which should I get?
In our shockwave skirts, an XL would be tighter/drier fit and an XXL would be an easier, less-dry fit.
The only rand skirt we make that would fit that rim properly is the Lucky Charm, and it’s the same deal- xl or xxl. We are just starting to roll out the lucky charm skirts, so they aren’t on the website, but we can help you track one down if you like.
In general, though, for the type of whitewater that boat is meant for, the shockwave skirt should be more than adequate.
That would be an XL. We have started to release a new skirt- the Lucky Charm- and the XL version of that skirt is meant for that rim shape. We should have those in-stock here in a week or two.
Depends- if it’s the small rev, it’s a large cockpit, no matter what skirt type. The regular and large Rev is right in between large and XL. If you’re looking for a bungee skirt, then go large cockpit. If you’re looking for a rand skirt, then a large cockpit would be a tight fit, and an XL cockpit would be a easy fit.
I’m looking for a skirt to my new Jackson Allstar 2010. I’ve heard from many that a bit smaller skirt is better and more dry option for the new Allstar then the old. For example would your Lucky Charm size M be better fit with the new Allstar then the size L that is recommended for the old Allstar?
Hi Tuomas,
I currently have been using a size L Lucky Charm on my 2010 Allstar and it is definitely a tight fit. This option is going to be the driest, but a XL cockpit size would work best for ease of application, as well as being dry, especially if you use the overthruster system that Jackson offers.

Hey,
I’m looking for a skirt to my new Jackson Allstar 2010. I’ve heard from many that a bit smaller skirt is better and more dry option for the new Allstar then the old. For example would your Lucky Charm size M be better fit with the new Allstar then the size L that is recommended for the old Allstar?
Br,
Tuomas
38 jbecker // Nov 18, 2009 at 12:55 pm
Hi Tuomas,
I currently have been using a size L Lucky Charm on my 2010 Allstar and it is definitely a tight fit. This option is going to be the driest, but a XL cockpit size would work best for ease of application, as well as being dry, especially if you use the overthruster system that Jackson offers.
